Tango Buenos Aires

From August 13th to 31st the biggest celebration of tango will be held in the city: Tango Buenos Aires, with over 150 free shows and the most important names of the Porteño music and dance.

Tango Buenos Aires comprehends two events: the Festival and the Dance World Cup. During the Cup there are exhibitions, lessons and seminars for dancers of all skills and the main competition, with more than 400 couples struggling for the title in the categories of Stage and Salon tango.

The festival includes concerts, clinics, tango for children, records launchings, a film exhibition and many other activities. Gustavo Mozzi is the Art Director.

This year, Tango Buenos Aires is held at theatres de la Ribera (Pedro de Mendoza 1821), Alvear (Corrientes 1659), 25 de Mayo (Triunvirato 4444) and Coliseo (Marcelo T. de Alvear 1125); Centro Cultural Recoleta (Junín 1930), the Planetarium (Sarmiento y Belisario Roldán); La Trastienda (Balcarce 460), Luna Park (Madero 420) and the Festival’s Meeting Point, at Bartolomé Mitre 575.

Among the many artists for the 2010 edition of Tango Buenos Aires are Raúl Lavié, Susan Rinaldi, José Colángelo, Rodolfo Mederos, César Angeleri, Juanjo Domínguez, Daniel Melingo, siblings Luis and Lidia Borda, Juan Carlos Copes, Mora Godoy and Horacio Salgán’s Quinteto Real .

Some of the visitors from abroad are Panamian Rubén Blades, who will sing tangos backed by Leopoldo Federico’s orchestra, Japanese orchestra Aurora, Martín Alvarado and the Finnish quintet Otra vez, Triestango and the French bandoneonista Olivier Manoury.
