The charm of travelling deals with change: leaving the routines and discovering new places, where people can find new friends, new food, new customs. But sometimes, hotels seem to be old and known: as airports, hotels are almost similar in every part of the world. Generally –because there are exceptions– hotels are cold and impersonal. Some time ago, many people started to look for a more personal experience in lodgings which would allow them to become more acquainted with the customs of the place they visit. When such people came across those who were searching for cheaper lodgings, a new way of travelling arose: the house exchange.

La Boca

In a city that was formed by a multitude of cultures, La Boca has been, for more than 150 years, one of the neighbourhoods with the biggest immigrant population. Italians settled in La Boca, specially Genovese or Xeneixe, as it is said in their own dialect and how La Boca inhabitants are still known.

Retiro

Retiro neighbourhood was, for a long time, the north border of the small village Buenos Aires was until well advanced the XIX century. The low lands where now are the port and the railroads were covered by the Río de la Plata, and, when the water was high, the boats brought goods and travellers to the foot of the ravine that rises next to the current Avenida del Libertador.

Experimental Travel

Not all the travels are the same, even though tourism sometimes brings that feeling. If you believed in travel agencies, you would have to think that it doesn’t matter if you decide to go to Paris, Madagascar or Chivilcoy: in all of them there are extraordinary monuments, historical milestones, comfortable and luxurious hotels and delicious gastronomy. In all of them, people arrive by some mean of transport with a fixed time schedule, in all of them people do the check in and they visit museums.
